AUDITIONS AND STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS

The time is near!

In just a few weeks, the best and brightest color guard students will converge on Texas State University - San Marcos to experience what we like to call the iFamily!

We always like to think every season is going to be better than the last, but we truly know that both the A and Open Guard productions will be more entertaining, more competitive and the best yet from this young organization.

How do we know this?!

First, our award winning educational staff team is returning (with the exception of Kaley Sarbacker who is leaving to Germany for a year). This will be the third season working together, making a more effective and efficient team of educators. These are the people who volunteer their time every weekend and teach the life-lessons that make Identity the family it is. We could not do what we do without them!

The A team will continue to be under the leadership of Stephen Howard (Bowie HS) and Kyle Albright (Crockett/ Dripping Springs HS). We also welcome to the neighborhood our long time friend and lead staging designer, David S. Duffy (Hendrickson HS).

David has worked with Identity since the 2009 season and has had a great influence on the productions that have made Identity what it is today. We have seen what he can do with West Johnston HS and the creativity he has brought to the activity. With David in town, his knowledge and experience will be closer than ever to fulfilling his design vision.

The Open Guard will also continue to be under the leadership of Kim Booher. Along with Kim’s dedicated service, we welcome the exceptional experience and creativity of Andy Mroczek and Juan Carlos Caceres.

Andy comes to Identity as a lead designer after serving as a choreographer and consultant with us last season. Andy is currently the Color Guard Director at Cedar Park HS and the Color Guard Caption Head with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. Andy has designed and choreographed for some of the favorite winter guard programs in the past few years, most recently the 2011 WGI World Class Bronze medalist Braddock Ind.

Joining Andy is new lead designer and lead staging designer, Juan Carlos (JC) Caceres. Originally from Texas, JC currently resides in Portland, Oregon where he designs for numerous high school bands and color guards and is an accomplished visual designer, choreographer and sound designer. JC is on the staff of the 2011 DCI World Champions Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and designer for the 2011 DCI Open Class Silver Medalists Oregon Crusaders. JC’s winter work can be most easily seen by viewing Northern Lights ’02-’06, Zydeco World ’11, Braddock ’10, ’11, Seminole HS World ’11 to name a few.

All of these great people, working with the great performers who are auditioning in a few weeks, will make Identity shine in 2012!

IDENTITY TO WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Although the summer is in high gear, many of us are waiting with anticipation for the cooler weather and the winter guard season.

Identity will once again host a 2-day audition in September to welcome new and returning members to the A and Open Cast. Based on last season and Open Gym attendance, we anticipate spots will fill quickly so please make plans to attend this audition.

This season, we are extremely excited about having some of the best and brightest minds working on both Identity productions. Official staff announcements will be coming in August.

There are also plans to expand our clinics and we hope to host a Scholarship Show in January and TCGC Championships in March.

All this to say that Identity is healthy, well, and ready to tackle the newest adventure to shape this great organization...a baby!

Director Jaime Martinez and wife/ dance aficionado, Ali Martinez, are expecting their first child in February!

It is only right that a baby be born during the winter guard season to witness what we all love and maybe even attend a few contests and WGI Championships!

We also know that this baby will not want for LOVE because that is what the iFamily is all about. It is going to be a magical season with more firsts and a lot of babysitting!

HISTORY MADE IN 2011

How easy it is to forget where we started just a few short months ago. Over 40 people auditioned to be a part of the Identity Family. Nearly 8 months later, 34 young men and women competed at the Winter Guard International Championships in Dayton, OH.

The season was marked with so many great successes. Bringing out a second unit could be a strain on any organization, but we proved that we could produce two quality programs! Both teams ended the TCGC season strong with the A Team earning the Silver Medal only .3 away from Gold while the Open Team defended their title and was named the 2011 TCGC Independent Open Class Champion. The 2011 season solidified Identity as a premier organization dedicated to a quality color guard experience with memorable, fan favorite productions.

How easy it is to forget where we came from just 4 short seasons ago with 13 members in one guard. Remarkably, we have grown to having not just one, but two nationally competitive winter programs, something that is not common with independent units and has not been common in our area of Texas for some time.

We are proud to represent Texas with our unique brand of productions. We continue to strive to be better than the previous season and to give our members the best possible color guard education in the state! It is with this education that we also are able to send quality instructors out into the area to teach and grow great high school programs for the great band programs in Texas.

We are very happy to be able to close out the 2011 season with strong financial stability with no debt leading into 2012. We are in the best possible situation to continue to provide great experiences for our students!

We are very proud to also continue to expand our programs. We will continue having two performing units that will compete at WGI in 2012 as well as continuing to sponsor a Solo and Ensemble event in May. We are also in the planning stages of developing a Scholarship show in 2012 where proceeds would go to performing members of the Texas Color Guard Circuit!

Next year we mark 5 years as an organization. No time to rest as we set our sights on improving our end-of-season standing. Check back soon as we announce our 2012 staff including some exciting additions!

a great thrill

WOW...before we knew it, we are midway through March and the season is quickly coming to an end!

Such great things happening in the Identity Family. Our newest addition, Identity A, has been working hard and competing with the best of the best. We are extremely proud of what this young group of performers has accomplished so far this season!

Identity Open continues to pull at the hearts of staff and fans alike. The show has had numerous upgrades as the season as continued with the latest performance in Dallas garnering them a 3rd place finish. When the staff and performers come off the floor with smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes, you know it was a great show!

We want to thank all the guards who have helped us this season. We could not do it without you!

UPDATING BEFORE 2011

WOW! Time flies!

It is almost 2011 and so much has happened since the end of the season.

We have added new staff while much of the core staff remains. This is to cover the addition of a new program, Identity A.

Although it has been a long time since a parent organization has had 2 nationally competitive programs, we felt that there would be enough interest from the local community. With strong organizational support and a dedicated staff, we moved forward with fielding another nationally competitive program.

We were not disappointed at auditions when we had our largest turnout to date! Students from all regions of the state came to see what Identity had to offer. In the end, we had enough members to field both programs and challenge each member at their skill level.

Since October, both groups have been training for the upcoming season. At the same time, the designers who have brought the past interesting and entertaining productions were hard at work developing the 2011 shows.

The training season has not been all work though. Both groups had the honor and privilege of presenting a short program for the annual TCGC Judges’ Association Symposium in Houston, TX. They did a great job and impressed the Association even with only having worked on the piece for a few hours!

Recently, both groups have begun work on their 2011 productions. We are happy to once again be working with David S. Duffy on overall design aspects for both programs. Show announcements are coming soon!
